"The Black Stallion" is a novel by Walter Farley about a young boy named Alec Ramsay who befriends a wild black stallion after they are both shipwrecked on a deserted island. Alec and the stallion, whom he names Black, form a strong bond as they work together to survive on the island and eventually make their way back to civilization. Once back home, Alec and Black become famous for their incredible racing abilities as they compete in prestigious horse races. The novel explores themes of friendship, trust, and the power of a strong bond between a boy and his horse.
